Origami Butterflies
Origami is gives students the opportunity to focus and use their hands in a low risk environment. I have watched several of our students here at Ivy Hawn who may struggle in other areas of academics soar with success making these delightful origami butterflies. It's complex enough to challenge students' brains, but at the end of the day it's just paper and with a little adult or YouTube help students can experience success.
- In class, students work on origami with their teams. There are 2 requirements:
- Stay on the Blue Rug
- Help Each Other
Drops on a Coin
This is a STEM experiment that explores surface tension and encourages fine motor skills. I did this activity with my RTI Kindergartners and was amazed at the focus and care they took. We often discount the need to practice fine motor skills, but as a teacher who has to read sloppy handwriting...there is a need for deliberate practice!
